Ecotourism and traditional boats for sustainable fishing and boat touring in Kvænangen area
The Skorpa Project is about sustainable boat tourism in the island of Skorpa, Kvænangen, Nord Troms, Norway, and creating a connected and organic traditional boat sustainable tourism building, restoring and renting project.
In Skorpa we can restore the barn of Ole and Brit Anne Engebretsen, and make it the center of a sustainable camp with three Lavvu, made in cotton and with a burning stove inside. We would like also to restore a little boatshed now falling apart. And another little shed as a sauna. Our toilet will be the type of composting toilet called Airhead toilet. Nothing is going to pollute the island or waters.
On the island we will be energetically self sufficient utilizing solar and small generator wind power.

We would keep some goats for our milk and farming in summer where and how possible on the property, and fishing for our own consumption.
We would like to offer a basic hospitality focused on the simplicity of living in contact with nature. Also organizing small workshops about sustainable boat tourism. In summer would be interesting to offer local visitor a coffee and cakes. All these activities will happen mainly in summer due to the possible weather complications.
We need to have a boat, with electric or hybrid engine, to reach the island.
A very important part of the project is to build a little shipyard where we can employ local persons and create jobs.
We are restoring and building old traditional wooden boats to use them for sustainable tourism, fishing and rowing and sailing.
We will possibly need a place, aprox. 10 meter by 5 meter where we can work and keep workshops. We need to hire a boatbuilder teaching the employees how to use the traditional boats.
Some of the boats can be rented with or without a guide, in Badderen, Burfjord, Skorpa in summer, and wherever we can find a suitable base. The building must be traditional and with space enough to keep 5/6 boats (6 meters long and 1,8 meters wide, on average).
We also need to create an active web site integrating and promoting all the possible sustainable touristic activities in the Kvænangen Komune.
We can apply, once established the Norwegian company, for support from public and private help.
Creating job opportunities in the sustainable tourism, with these project, involving parallel other projects, is our main aim. And create and active center to be an example for sustainable tourism.
